The signs you need a vehicle inspection are your registration (Mulkiya) expiry approaching within the next month, an offer to buy a used car in the UAE, unexplained warning lights on the dashboard, a car that just doesn't feel right, or preparing a fleet vehicle for handover or sale. In the UAE, an annual inspection is legally required for registration renewal — the other cases are voluntary but avoid buying or driving a car with hidden faults.

Legally required — Mulkiya renewal

Every UAE-registered car needs to pass an annual RTA / equivalent inspection before its registration can be renewed. If your Mulkiya expires next month, book an inspection now so any failing items can be repaired before you visit the testing centre. Driving a car with expired registration in the UAE carries fines up to AED 500 plus daily penalties.

Strongly recommended — before buying used

UAE used-car listings can hide accident history, chassis welds, gearbox slippage, and worn drivetrain components. A pre-purchase mobile inspection from a certified technician catches these before you transfer money — typically saves buyers AED 5,000–30,000 in avoided repair bills. Ask the seller to allow a mobile QARO technician to inspect the car at their location; if they refuse, that's a signal in itself.

Warning signs you shouldn't ignore

  • Check-engine light that won't clear — could be minor (a loose fuel cap) or major (misfire, catalytic converter). A diagnostic scan tells you which.
  • Vibration at highway speed — often wheel balance, suspension, or driveshaft. Uncomfortable at 80 km/h becomes unsafe at 140.
  • Pulling to one side when you let go of the wheel — alignment, tyre pressure, or brake caliper.
  • Grinding or squeaking on braking — worn brake pads or rotors.
  • Coolant or oil spots under the car after it's parked overnight.
  • Gearbox slipping or delayed shifts — needs diagnostic before it becomes a full replacement.

Before a long UAE road trip

A pre-trip inspection covers everything a technician would check before a long drive: tyres, brakes, cooling system, battery, fluids, wipers, spare wheel condition, and jack + tools. UAE summer road trips (Al Ain, Fujairah, Oman) push cars hard; a 30-minute inspection before you leave beats waiting for roadside assistance on Highway E11 at noon in July.

What to do

Book a mobile vehicle inspection in the QARO app — a certified technician comes to your home or office with the required tools and computer diagnostics, and gives you a written report of anything that needs attention.

Cost signal

QARO mobile inspection starts at AED 100 (VAT inclusive). See what a vehicle inspection covers.
