Cars with start-stop need an AGM or EFB battery, because the engine restarts many times on every drive and a standard battery wears out early under that load. Most European cars from 2015 onwards have start-stop, and the new battery has to be registered to the car’s computer so it charges correctly. QARO fits AGM batteries at your car and does the registration as part of the fitting; the price for your model is shown in the app before you confirm.
Which battery your car needs
| Your car | Battery | Why |
|---|---|---|
| No start-stop | Standard lead-acid, in the right DIN or JIS size | The usual battery for most cars |
| Start-stop, entry level | EFB (enhanced flooded) | Built for frequent restarts |
| Start-stop, premium, or a lot of electronics | AGM (absorbent glass mat) | If the car came with AGM, it needs AGM again; a cheaper type fails early |
Check the label on the battery fitted now, or your owner’s manual. The QARO app shows the battery for your make and model.
Why the battery has to be registered
On many start-stop cars the car’s computer manages charging to suit the battery’s age. After a new battery is fitted, it has to be told; otherwise it keeps charging the new battery as if it were the old one, and the new battery can fail early. QARO does this registration as part of fitting the battery.
Signs your AGM battery is going
- Start-stop stops working, or the dashboard says it is unavailable
- Slow cranking, especially on a hot morning
- The battery or charging warning light
- Electronics resetting, or a warning about the battery
UAE heat shortens battery life: most car batteries last two to three years here.
QARO battery services
| You need | QARO service | Price |

FAQs
- Can I fit a normal battery to a start-stop car? It will fit, but it is the wrong type: it wears out early, and start-stop may stop working. Replace like for like.
- Can I replace an EFB with an AGM? Check your owner’s manual. Replacing an AGM with an EFB or a standard battery is the swap to avoid.
- Does a new AGM battery need registering? On many start-stop cars, yes. QARO does it as part of the fitting.
