A vehicle inspection is a formal safety and mechanical check of a car — required in the UAE for registration renewal at the RTA (Dubai), TAMM (Abu Dhabi), or their equivalents in each emirate, and separately recommended before buying any used car. The inspection covers brakes, suspension, tyres, lights, emissions, chassis integrity, and identifying documents; failing any item means retesting after repair.
The two situations where you need one
- Registration renewal: Every UAE-registered car must pass an annual inspection to renew its Mulkiya. Rental cars, personal vehicles, and commercial fleet vehicles are all included.
- Pre-purchase inspection: A voluntary but strongly recommended check before buying a used car — reveals accident history, chassis welds, hidden rust, gearbox faults, and mechanical wear the seller may not disclose.
What actually gets checked
A full inspection includes: brake performance (front + rear, handbrake), suspension travel, wheel alignment, tyre condition and depth, all lights (headlights, indicators, brake lights, reverse), horn, wipers, seat belts, chassis number verification, VIN plate, engine bay condition, exhaust emissions test, undercarriage rust or damage, and window tint compliance. Total time: 30–60 minutes for a standard check; longer for a pre-purchase inspection with diagnostic scan.
Mobile inspection vs traditional testing centre
Traditional RTA centres require you to book, drive there, wait in queue, and return if any item fails for repair. A mobile vehicle inspection from QARO brings a certified technician to your home or office with the same test equipment (for pre-purchase inspections and RTA-recognised pre-check reports). It doesn't replace the RTA visit itself, but it lets you fix any failing item first so you pass the RTA test on the first try.
Why UAE cars often fail their first inspection
- Illegal window tint: Anything darker than 50 % VLT (30 % in some emirates) fails.
- Worn tyres: Below the 1.6 mm tread indicator.
- Faulty lights: A single burnt-out brake or number-plate bulb fails you.
- Modifications: Aftermarket exhausts, non-original wheels above a spec limit, lift kits.
- Emissions: Old catalytic converter or clogged air filter.

QARO mobile inspection starts at AED 100 (VAT inclusive). See vehicle inspection.
