Before you book a car service in the UAE, check four things: what the car actually needs, whether warranty rules apply, exactly what the price includes (parts, labour, VAT) and where the work will happen — at your car, at a garage you drive to, or after a pickup. The twelve-point checklist below takes about ten minutes and avoids the two most common problems: a bill bigger than the quote, and a job that did not need doing.
The checklist
Know your car
- Make, model, year and engine. Parts and prices depend on them — a battery or oil filter for one engine may not fit another from the same model year. Have the registration card (Mulkiya) to hand.
- Mileage and last service. Note the odometer reading and when and where the car was last serviced. Your owner’s manual or service booklet shows what is due at this mileage.
- The exact symptom. Write down what happens and when: a warning light (take a photo of it), a noise and when you hear it, the car pulling one way, slow cranking in the morning. “Something is wrong” gets a diagnostic bill; a clear symptom gets the right job.
Check the rules
- Warranty. If the car is under manufacturer warranty, read the booklet: some warranties expect scheduled servicing with approved parts and a stamped record. Recall and warranty repairs belong at the dealer.
- Service history. Wherever you service the car, keep every invoice. A complete history helps at resale, and a dealer may ask for it before a warranty claim.
Understand the price
- Fixed price or estimate? Ask whether the number is a fixed price or an estimate that can grow after inspection, and get it in writing — in the app or by message.
- Is VAT included? UAE prices should say whether the 5% VAT is included. Compare like with like.
- What exactly is included. For a service: which oil grade and quantity, which filters, which checks. For a battery or tyres: which brand and model, and whether fitting and disposal of the old part are included.
- Parts and warranty. Ask whether parts are OEM, OE-equivalent or aftermarket, and what warranty covers the parts and the labour.
Decide where the work happens
- At your car, at a garage, or pickup-and-drop? Jobs like a battery, tyres, a wash or an inspection can be done where the car is parked. Brakes, AC, gearbox and bodywork need a garage. With pickup-and-drop, someone else drives your car — ask who, and how it is insured while they do.
- Time. Ask how long the car will be out of use. A battery or tyre job at your car is usually done within the hour; detailing and coating take longer, and a garage visit can take the day.
- Before handover. Remove valuables, note the fuel level and mileage, and take a few photos of the car. It takes two minutes and settles any later question about scratches or fuel.
How QARO handles the checklist
- Fixed price, VAT inclusive, before you confirm — shown in the app. For example: battery replacement starting from AED 425, car wash starting from AED 55, pre-purchase inspection starting from AED 325.
- Work done at the car — no handover, no driver, no day without the car, 24/7 for emergencies.
- VAT invoice, with the manufacturer warranty on batteries, tyres and filters recorded against the booking, so your service history stays complete.
- Not sure what is wrong? Engine diagnostics starting from AED 100 reads the fault codes before anyone replaces a part.
- Needs a workshop? Garage Booking finds a verified garage in the same app.
Red flags when booking a car service
- No price until the car is already at the garage.
- A price that does not say whether VAT is included.
- “While we were in there” extra work done without your approval.
- No invoice, or an invoice without the parts listed.
- Pressure to replace parts on the spot without showing you why.
Frequently asked questions
What should I check before booking a car service?
Your car’s details and mileage, the exact symptom, your warranty terms, whether the price is fixed and VAT inclusive, what parts and warranty are included, and where the work will be done.
Do I have to service my car at the dealer to keep the warranty?
Read your warranty booklet: terms differ by brand. Many expect servicing on schedule with approved parts and a documented record. For warranty and recall repairs, go to the dealer.
Is it better to service a car at home or at a garage?
For jobs that do not need a ramp — battery, tyres, wash, inspection — at home is quicker and you keep the car. For brakes, AC, gearbox or bodywork, use a garage. See what can be done at home.
