The clearest signs you need a flat tyre replacement are a fully deflated tyre that won't hold air, a visible sidewall bulge or cut, tread wear indicators showing at the surface, or a puncture larger than 6 mm in the tread. Any of these mean the tyre is unsafe to drive on — even for short distances at low speed.
The visible warning signs
- Sidewall bulge or blister — internal cords are broken; the tyre can rupture at any moment. Replace immediately.
- Sidewall cut — impossible to patch safely; must be replaced.
- Cracking on the sidewall or between tread blocks — often from UAE heat + age; the rubber has hardened and lost integrity.
- Tread wear indicators flush with the tread — the small raised bars in the grooves are level with the tread surface, meaning under 1.6 mm remaining. Illegal to drive on in the UAE.
- Uneven wear — one edge or centre worn out while the rest looks fine; usually alignment or pressure issues that have already killed the tyre.
The behavioural signs while driving
Even before the tyre looks bad, you may feel it:
- Vibration through the steering wheel at highway speed — often a separated belt inside a tyre.
- Constant pulling to one side — one tyre is losing air or the tread has failed.
- Loss of pressure within days of a top-up — slow puncture; either repair (see tyre puncture repair) or replace.
- Thumping noise at low speed — flat spot from a slow puncture driven on.
- TPMS warning that won't clear — check the pressure and inspect the tyre.
When repair is possible instead
If the puncture is in the tread (not the shoulder or sidewall), under 6 mm across, and the tyre hasn't been driven flat for more than a few hundred metres, a proper mushroom-plug repair is safe. See tyre puncture repair cost in the UAE for the repairable case. If any of those conditions fail, you need a replacement.
What to do right now
If you're stranded with a flat: don't drive on it — even at low speed, a flat tyre destroys the wheel and can shred within a kilometre. Turn on hazards, move safely off the carriageway if possible, and book a mobile flat tyre replacement. A QARO technician dispatches in about 8 minutes on average across major UAE cities, brings the correct tyre or fits your spare, and gets you moving.
Cost signal
Mobile fitting starts at AED 100 (VAT inclusive) for fitting your spare. New tyres are priced by size and brand. See what flat tyre replacement involves for the full process.
