A car inspection in the UAE costs between AED 100 and AED 800, and which end you pay depends almost entirely on who does it and why. QARO's mobile 23-point inspection is starting from AED 325 (VAT inclusive), performed at the car wherever it is parked in about two hours, including an OBD scan and a full road test, with the digital report emailed on completion. An RTA testing centre charges a AED 170 fee but only tests for registration renewal. A dealer pre-purchase inspection runs AED 400–800.
What does a car inspection cost in the UAE in 2026?
| Who does it | What it is for | Price |
|---|---|---|
| QARO mobile inspection | 23-point pre-purchase or annual check at the car, with OBD scan and road test | Starting from AED 325 |
| Dealer pre-purchase inspection | Same-brand certified used cars | AED 400–800 |
| Independent inspector (Al Quoz) | Deep pre-purchase for high-value cars | AED 300–700 |
| RTA testing centre | Registration renewal only | AED 170 fee |
| DIY OBD dongle | Buyers who want live scan data themselves | AED 100–500 one-off |
Is an RTA test the same as a pre-purchase car inspection?
No, and this is the single most expensive misunderstanding in the UAE used-car market. RTA vehicle testing is a registration requirement: it checks that a car is roadworthy and legal to keep on the road, and it is done at an RTA-approved centre. It is not a condition report for a buyer. A car can pass an RTA test on the same day its gearbox is failing, its chassis has been welded, or its service history is fabricated.
A pre-purchase car inspection asks a different question: should you buy this specific car at this specific price? That means paint-depth readings panel by panel, chassis and underbody, engine and transmission behaviour, a full OBD scan of every module, suspension, brakes, tyres and their dates, air conditioning under UAE load, electronics and the service record. Registration renewal does not care about any of that.
If you are renewing registration, go to an RTA centre. If you are about to hand over AED 40,000, get a pre-purchase inspection first — and get it before the money moves, not after.
What makes one car inspection cost more than another?
- What is being answered. A quick pre-registration scan is cheaper than a full pre-purchase report, because a pre-purchase report has to survive an argument about price.
- Where the car is. A garage inspection needs the car driven there — which, on a car you have not bought yet, means a stranger's car, a test-drive and a wasted afternoon. A mobile inspection happens at the seller's address.
- The car itself. Larger and higher-spec vehicles take longer: more modules to scan, more panels to measure, more systems to load-test.
- Whether you get the report. A verbal "it looks fine" is worth what you paid for it. A written, dated report with readings is what you negotiate against, and what you keep if the seller disputes it later.
What does QARO's car inspection, starting from AED 325, actually cover?
A certified inspector comes to the car — the seller's parking, your driveway, a showroom forecourt — and works through a 23-point checklist in about two hours:
- Engine — condition and performance, engine oil and coolant condition, and any oil or coolant leaks.
- Gearbox, suspension and steering — transmission and gear shifting, shock absorbers, and the steering system.
- Brakes and tyres — brake pads and discs, and tyre condition.
- Battery and charging — battery, alternator and starter motor.
- Air conditioning — the AC system and its cooling performance.
- Electrics — lights, windows, central locking and dashboard warning lights.
- Computer checks — an OBD diagnostic scan, ECU/ECM fault codes, and the airbag (SRS) and ABS systems.
- Drivetrain and underbody — the 4WD/AWD system if fitted, the exhaust, the underbody, and the chassis and structure.
- Road test — a full drive to check performance and any unusual noises, vibrations or knocking.
You get an overall verdict on the mechanical condition, plus the repairs and maintenance it recommends.
The report is emailed on completion and saved against the vehicle in the app, so it is still there when you are negotiating, or a year later when you sell.
Is a mobile car inspection starting from AED 325 worth it on a cheap car?
The question is not what the car costs, it is what a wrong answer costs. A gearbox on a mid-range Japanese sedan is AED 5,000–30,000 in the UAE. An air-conditioning system that fails in June is a four-figure repair. A chassis that has been welded is a car you cannot resell at any sensible price. Starting from AED 325, the inspection is a small price for the answer, set against any of those.
How quickly can you get a car inspection in the UAE?
QARO dispatches across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the northern emirates, and an inspection takes about two hours on site, road test included. Booking is in the app, with the price, starting from AED 325, shown before you confirm — no diagnostic fee to find out what it costs, and no price that changes when the inspector arrives.
